WOW, another year has crept up on us and technology has exponentially gone through the roof. In this ever-changing world of home entertainment, the theater experience has surpassed most public screening facilities. Unless you are an IMAX Theater, or an advance Atmos Home Theater Surround Sound system, what’s the point? The only reason anyone seems to be going to a public theater is for the latest release of the next chapter of a Superhero Movie. Marvel, DC and other studios that produce these movies know they better step up their game or they won’t attract their regulars. So, what is it that Home Theater Movie Enthusiast are building is now challenging the market and doing it on their own. Can you really compete with the quality, of both sight and sound? Yes, you can!

As a veteran of the Audio/Video Industry for 50 years, I have seen where we came from and where we are heading. We used to call it the, “Stereo Business.” for those older than 60, you remember how we enjoyed our music. Turntables, reel to reel tape recorders, tube electronics, and vinyl records that are in as high a demand today as yesteryear! The term stereo basically meant, “2 Channel,” left and right speakers that we positioned ourselves right in between for best imaging. No center channel needed. The great speakers of our day delivered what wasn’t there, filling the center and the entire room with a live performance. Receivers were the total solution for AM/FM radio, tape deck playback and our turntable inputs.

But soon, multichannel receivers appeared, and surround sound was created. Rear speakers were now the deal. A surround processor could deliver ambient information and make you feel like you were sitting in the middle of the symphony. Not a real position you could ever experience, nor wanted. But the special effect went far beyond when separate channels were now being recorded and you could experience the effect of things moving left to right and front to back. Obviously, now the only thing missing was a “big Screen,” not an easy thing to add. From this time forward, everything took off at the same time. Fast forward to today…

We are now about to experience another exponential leap forward. The death of TV is near. We don’t even us that term anymore, it’s a monitor. Streaming is taking the place of broadcasting. Even the internet will have a hard time to stay current once streaming and Wi-Fi take front stage, Commercial TV will fade quickly and even staying at home to watch anything will be replace by your personal device that will receive any and all games, movies, concerts, sports and information on demand! Like the music industry has done away with CD’s and DVD’s and gathered just about every piece of music ever recorded on just a few platforms, so will the visual. One company in particular is introducing a product called, “MyStream,” on place for everything. No more the need for multiple paid services. Are you ready? ready or not, it is already here…
